As spring break approaches and summer vacation quickly follows, I am already trying to come up with a plan for how my kiddos and I (and sometimes my hubby) will be spending our vacation days. Of course, taking family trips together is part of that plan, but where we will visit is always the question. There is so much I want to see and do with the family. Well, I just found out about Bear Lake Valley and not only did I add it to my list of places I want to visit but I also wanted to share what I learned with you so that you can add it to your travel list as well.

Bear Lake Valley

Offering various breathtaking views, dark night skies and beautiful mountain ranges, Bear Lake Valley is a family friendly destination that straddles the Utah/Idaho border and is centrally located between Salt Lake City, UT, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Jackson, WY

Here are 5 Things To Know About Bear Lake Valley

***Bear Lake was formed some 28 thousand years ago by earthquake activity. It is 20 miles long and 8 miles across with intense, clear, turquoise blue water. Its unique aqua-blue color is the result of calcium carbonates suspended in the lake.

***Bear Lake is actually nicknamed ‘The Caribbean of the Rockies’ because of the intensity of the blue water found in Bear Lake but the color of the lake actually changes every day depending on the weather and the cloud coverage.

What an amazing sight that must be, I am sure I would be taking a ton of pictures of it and then posting them on social media of course.

***Outdoor family adventures can be found all around the lake:

  • Spending a day at the beach playing in the white sandy beaches with crystal clear shallow shores of bear lake
  • Renting kayaks and stand up paddle boards right on the beach
  • Renting bikes to ride on the local bike path
  • Guided horseback rides
  • Renting a boat
  • Fishing in Bear Lake
  • Hiking and ATV Trails
  • Camping or Glamping

My family and I would love to build sand castles on the beach, go kayaking, paddle boarding, horse back riding and definitely go ATV riding! Oh, I’d like to go bike riding as well.

***When visiting Bear Lake Valley, their world Famous Raspberry Shakes, made with locally grown raspberries, are a must try.

I am sure my daughter would be happy to give it a try.

***There are various forms of lodging options available based on what your family enjoys: Hotels, Motels, Bed & Breakfasts, Vacation Rentals and Campgrounds.

So, where would you and your family stay while at Bear Valley Lake? I know that I would want to stay at a hotel and I would even consider glamping, the keyword being “glamping”.

In addition to Bear Lake Valley being good for families, it is also ideal for adventurers, backpackers and solo travelers.
