The D23 Expo was filled with so many moments I will remember, one of which was a Musical Celebration of Aladdin in celebration of its home release of both the live-action adaptation and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film. I wasn’t sure what to expect but once it started, I knew we were in for a treat.
Scott Weinger (the voice of “Aladdin”) kicked off the celebration and was later joined by Linda Larkin (the voice of “Jasmine”) as they took us on a magic carpet ride through some of our favorite songs from “Aladdin”. Of course, I couldn’t resist singing along (I mean it was off key but I couldn’t resist…you know you would have done the same thing).
Fun Fact: Scott Weinger did not do any singing in the film, it was actually done by Brad Kane.
With the help of some special guests that included Brad Kane (“Aladdin” singing voice), Deedee Magno Hall (“Jasmine” in “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular”), Jamal Sims (choreographer, “Aladdin” live-action), Clinton Greenspan (Broadway’s next “Aladdin”), Lillias White (“Hercules”), and Norm Lewis (“Scandal,” “The Little Mermaid” on Broadway), we were treated to some of their behind-the-scenes stories.
We were also treated to a surprise appearance from Mena Massoud (“Aladdin” live-action) and he gave us a first look at the bloopers and a deleted scene of the original song “Desert Moon,” a duet with him and Naomi Scott (“Jasmine” live-action), all of which are available as bonus features on the live-action film’s Digital & Blu-ray release.
Oh, and we saw special video messages from Will Smith and Alan Menken! The Musical Celebration of Aladdin seemed to fly by! I was so sad to see it end but was so thankful to have been able to experience it given my love for the film.
Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin is available on DIGITAL today. The animated classic Aladdin also joins the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Digital today.
